Star Wars: The Force Awakens brings the saga roaring back from the ashes, with a blast of high-energy excitement! It was a joy to see the original cast back, as well as the new characters, Finn, Rey and Kylo Ren amongst others.
The practical creatures, animatronics, and use of real locations and sets make the world feel lived-in and realistic, adding to the grounded and tortured new characters. Kylo Ren in particular, is captivating, enhanced by an impressive performance from Adam Driver. John Boyega is endlessly charismatic as Finn, but the real discovery is Daisy Ridley, who plays one of the best heroes in recent memory. Her work here is so real that I’m itching to see what else she can do. Another great addition was Oscar Isaac as Poe, a cunning pilot, and a very fun character. He leads a bunch of thrilling X-Wing sequences that had me gripping my seat handles.
It was wonderful seeing Han Solo grace the screen again, and the film wisely makes use of the original cast, teasing us in enticing ways. The Force Awakens leaves us wanting more, which is exactly what it should do. Impressive Abrams, most impressive.
